What a girl wants!

What is your last meal? The last one you would ever have if you were on death row? The meal that makes your life complete?

Mine would be blood cake with a runny fried egg on top, followed by roasted bone marrow and smoked Lardon. That’s the appetizer. The meal would be smoked mussels in a white wine and shallot sauce.  Everything I love about smoke, curing, and shellfish. Artisan cheeses and a glass of good port for dessert. If it’s my last meal, why should I worry about cholesterol?

It’s a little daunting I know. There are so many choices; so many amazing tastes and experiences that you have passed your lips that bring memories of good times and laughs. That’s why I maintain food is love. A sharing of life. Why am I asking you? My daughter is going back to college tomorrow and this is her last home cooked meal for a few months.

So what did she ask for? Rotisserie Chicken rubbed with garlic and onion with just a little bacon under the skin. Why not? Twice stuffed potatoes with cheddar sauce and Vicky’s César Salad.  It doesn’t matter that it’s -12 outside. That what she wants so on go the gloves and the burners fired up.

The rotisserie on my gas BBQ has had a workout since I got it. This summer I’m looking for one to go over the Weber Kettle to throw some woody goodness on it, but for now natural gas will suffice.

Needless to say, the smiles and rewards to me were gargantuan.

So your child is headed off for a couple of months. What would you create for them?
