In this week’s Iron Chef America Izard vs. Battes, can modern cuisine and culinary science lead a challenger to a win over an Iron Chef?

Iron Chef America Izard vs. Battes has the newest Iron Chef take on an apprentice of an Iron Chef master. Could the challenger mount an epic battle against Chef Izard? Just as long as the secret ingredient doesn’t float away, this battle could be a memorable one.

According to the Food Network, this week’s episode features the following:

"Chef Erik Battes — a fruit of Iron Chef Morimoto’s culinary tree — applies modern takes to an ancient ingredient in a battle against Iron Chef Stephanie Izard. Michael Voltaggio and Ching-He Huang will determine the winner of this fierce competition."

Second, Battes created one of the most infamous restaurant dishes. While working for Morimoto, Battes create the floating uni. The use of liquid nitrogen and magnets made a delicious dish into an optical illusion. But can tricks bring an Iron Chef victory?

Lastly, the only clue to the secret ingredient is an ancient ingredient. That broad topic is so vague that anything could be under the cloche. One thing that fans can expect will be several Asian inspired dishes. But, will there be an ice cream on the tasting menu?
