Forget the Slurpee and Big Gulp, 7-Eleven just introduced its own private canned wine. The holidays are looking even more festive.

7-Eleven understands that people are on the go more now than ever. The company just launched its first private label canned wine, Roamer. While people enjoy grabbing a Slurpee or a Big Gulp as part of their routine, 7-Eleven hopes to appeal to people’s busy lifestyles with this new offering.

Wine is always a popular beverage, but today’s busy lifestyles make a full bottle of wine less convenient. With more and more companies entering the alternative wine packaging market, sales have soared. According to Nielsen, “canned wines sales surged 43 percent from June 2017 to June 2018 totaling a $45 million business.”

Since 7-Eleven appeals to convenience, it makes sense that it would embrace this type of offering. The convenience and lifestyle slant drives this launch. According to Tim Cogil, 7-Eleven senior director of private brands, “The name, Roamer, reflects how we think people will enjoy this new wine – while they’re out and attending concerts, picnics or spending a day at the beach. Roamer wine can share the ice chest with canned beer and soda with no additional wine paraphernalia needed.”

Roamer canned wine comes in two varietals, chardonnay and rosé. These two varietals make sense for the canned packaging. Best enjoyed chilled, these options can find their place next to the water, soda and beer.

7-Eleven describes Roamer Chardonnay as oak influence, with bright tropical and citrus fruits that add to its bright acidity. While not having tried this wine, it sounds like an approachable wine. Buttery Chardonnays are most common and liked by wine drinkers. Having a few bright notes can help to balance the buttery qualities.

Rosé canned wine should be a home run. Who doesn’t love a crisp, refreshing rosé? This wine is Syrah based and features flavors of strawberry and raspberry. Described as crisp, dry and refreshing, it sounds like a very approachable rosé.

Roamer sells for $4.99 for a 12.7 ounce can. For the launch, Roamer will be sold two cans for $9.

Are you a fan of canned wine? Will you be thanking 7-Eleven for this new beverage? At least that cooler doesn’t have to only be for beer anymore.
