While creating a chef-driven dish might seem relatively simple on that favorite food television show, home cooks can appreciate a helping hand in the kitchen. Ben’s Original 10 Medley combines ease of use and bold flavor to make it a smart, convenient choice to use any day of the week. Chef Sherri Freeman suggests a few dishes that will quickly become dinner time favorites.

Putting dinner on the table without a struggle is the goal of many home cooks. Combine that scenario with the concept that people look to maintain a balanced lifestyle, it can sometimes feel overwhelming. But, with a few smart choices, the goal is within reach.

Recently, Ben’s Original 10 Medley partnered with Chef Shenarri Freeman, Executive Chef of Cadence and Ubuntu, to showcase how it can adapt to a variety of cuisines. Given that the product blends grains, vegetables, legumes and herbs and is easy to prepare, it will quickly become a staple in many households.

During a conversation with FoodSided, Chef Freeman explained that the flavor base of the Ben’s Original allows it to be a great starting point to recipe creation. She said, “overall the products can serve as a base which allows cooks to build flavor on top of it. From there, cooks can lean towards their palate, but it is always good to be open and exploring. Since the product is already full of so much flavor, you do not have to do a lot.”

Chef Freeman continued, “While the Ben’s Original 10 Medley is a plant-forward dish, if you’re looking to elevate it, you can add tofu, chicken, or another protein. Being able to play around with it showcases its versatility.”

One of the aspects of this product is that it is easy to cook. While some people might struggle with rice, this Ben’s product can be heated in the microwave or prepared on the stovetop. In a way, the thoughtfulness with the method keeps the home cook from being overwhelmed. No matter the scenario, the foundation will always be well-prepared and flavorful.

While the food product comes in four choices, Chef Freeman shared one of her favorite recipes. Using the Ben’s Original 10 Medley Chinese Style Five Spice, she suggested a simple fried rice dish with some broccoli or even adding beef for a protein boost. From there, she mentioned adding a touch of garlic, sesame oil, mirin and soy sauce to build out the overall flavor. In some ways, this product lends itself to using almost anything that is sitting in the refrigerator.

More importantly, it is changing the mindset around rice. As she shared, “when a lot of people cook rice or grains, it will be just that. These dishes are more than just a side. Focus on an entrée based dish and see where the product can lead you.”

Given that rice and grains cross cultures, they can be the ingredients that open a whole new conversation and appreciation about food. As Chef Freeman said, “when you start researching food across different cultures and cuisines, you can see a lot of similarities. While you will see different ingredients that are indigenous to those area, it is a reminder how diverse yet connected food can be. The region just uses food that is available to them.”

Whether home cooks are looking to expand their cooking repertoire or want to add flavor to some of their favorite dishes, the Ben’s Original 10 Medley will become that pantry staple. Ready to open a bag and explore the possibilities.

Ben’s Original 10 Medley comes in four flavors, Chinese Style Five Spice, Smoky Southwest, Carribean Style, and Tomato and Herbs. Check with retailers for availability and pricing.
