The oven has been busy with this baking trend.

To say that this year has been chaotic is an understatement, but comfort foods have made it a little better. One big baking trend has filled kitchens with a delicious aroma that will make your stomach grumble. Are you baking this classic dessert?

While your socials were filled with banana bread and tricks on sourdough starters, those images and statements hid the real truth hiding in those ovens. Everyone was actually baking cookies.

According to the DoorDash food trends report, 80% of people have been baking. More importantly, 60% of people have been baking cookies. Cookies were followed by cake, brownies, banana bread, pie and sourdough bread.

While the study does not specify what type of cookies, the findings seem to show that people want to bake and feel comfortable making a treat that is easy. Whether it was refrigerated cookie dough or cookies from scratch there is something classic about baking cookies.

Additionally, cookies are quick to make in less than an hour; anyone can make a dozen of cookies. Plus, it only requires a few ingredients. Maybe with a little baking confidence from those batches of cookies, people felt confident enough to try some other desserts and baked goods.

With everyone baking, the DoorDash trend report showed that people were shopping for new baking essentials. Besides pots and pans, baking sheets, measuring cups and even the KitchenAid stand mixer saw a surge in purchases. Now those kitchens are stocked and ready for any baking adventure.

While this trend has filled the first part of 2020, it will be interesting to see if people keep the baking trend going forward. It has been shown that people are getting tired of cooking and long for their favorite restaurants. Hopefully, all those new baking essentials don’t collect dust in the kitchen cabinets.

What do you think of this baking trend? How many dozens of cookies have you baked this year?
