With this weekend being the State Fair of Texas’ final days, here are five food and drink items you have to try!

The State Fair of Texas is all about the food. Sure, there are rides, games, and plenty of cute farm animals to feed, but at the center of it all is the fair’s creative and unique menu. From fried foods, tasty beverages, and sweet bites, the annual event has something for every taste bud.

This year, it unfortunately rained on our parade. Literally! Dallas had showers and rainstorms more days than it didn’t, causing the State Fair to close its doors early and cancel the parade that end’s the night’s events. Still, that didn’t stop many locals from stopping by for a corn dog or two.

If you still haven’t gone to the fair this year, or you’re thinking of going one last time, this is the perfect weekend to do so! That is, unless the weather unexpectedly changes once again.

According to the latest weather reports, Friday will see showers, but the skies should clear up towards the end of the day and welcome sunshine all Saturday and Sunday. Make plans to go!

This is the State Fair of Texas’ last weekend, know what you’re going there for in order to make the most of the day. Lucky for you, we’re here to help!

Here are our favorite must-haves and where to find them…

#1 The Famous State Fair of Texas Corn Dog

The most shared photo from the fair is Big Tex, but in second place comes the corn dog. We all go to the fair to eat some corn dogs! As many times as we’ve had one, corn dogs from state fairs taste even more delicious! The question is, do you like yours with mustard, ketchup, or both? You can find these anywhere and everywhere at the fair.

#2 Cherish Erbert Champagne

New drink alert! Thirsty for a sweet, grown-up drink? Head over to Barrera’s for a slushee!

#3 The State Fair of Texas Souvenir Cup

Not only is this a cool souvenir that you may also use outside of the fair, but you can bring it in to the fair again next year (and any other year after that) to be refilled with your favorite drink, or famous state fair lemonade, for only 6 tickets! These are available in several shops throughout the fair.

#4 Frozen Hot Chocolate

This is a new item! Conveniently located inside the Coliseum, the Frozen Hot Chocolate is the perfect cool drink to enjoy indoors if you’re avoiding the heat or rain. Be sure to top it with whipped cream!

#5 Fruity Dessert Nachos

Got a sweet tooth? The Fruity Dessert Nachos are for you! As always, whipped cream is a must! The ice cream cone waffles are the perfect substitution for chips to eat up the sliced bananas and strawberries drizzled in chocolate. Find these at Ruth’s Tamale House.
