Larsen Meadworks offers a variety of mead to stay warm this winter!
With cold weather becoming the norm here, I’m on the hunt for ways to keep warm this winter. In Mechanicsburg, PA, I found a cozy meadworks that serves up delicious mead in a relaxed setting.
Larsen Meadworks in Mechanicsburg, PA, is a charming cafe that serves up one of the worlds oldest alcohols — mead! Located right on West Main Street, this charming business is surrounded by other small businesses, including record stores, an art gallery, cafes, and more. I stopped in on a blustery Saturday afternoon, eager to find something to warm me up.
Mead is one of the oldest forms of alcohol in the world. Made with honey and fruit, the then fermented blend creates one of the most delicious forms of alcohol. I’ve been a long fan of mead thanks to the many renaissance festivals I visit, and dare I say I may have found a new favorite spot for when I’m in Pennsylvania!
I ordered myself a glass of Aura, a strawberry rhubarb mead. The gentleman pouring my glass was excellent at explaining how everything they serve they also make. Upon first sip you can understand why he was so proud, this was an exceptional tasting mead.
Strawberry rhubarb is one of my favorite flavor mixtures, and with the addition of honey this may just become my new favorite winter drink. Aura is delicately smooth, and doesn’t overpower your senses. The color is a soft pink, and it smells exactly how you would imagine — it’s feels like springtime in a glass.
I also sampled a few other flavors, and I have to say I’m impressed with everything I tried. Bottles range from $14-25, while a glass will be around $7. This is a great spot for an afternoon with friends or a date, and they even have live music periodically. If you’re ever driving through Mechanicsburg, PA, be sure to stop by Larsen Meadworks!
