Simplicity keeps chocolate chip cookies a classic

When was the last time you enjoyed some chocolate chip cookies? That iconic, classic recipe is always on trend.

From kids to adults, chocolate chip cookies are always a tasty treat. Even as more people explore baking breads or more elaborate desserts, the simple, classic cookie seems to the recipe that everyone enjoys.

For many people, Nestle chocolate morsels and the infamous recipe on the back of that yellow bag, is the go to choice when it comes to home baking. Given the long, stories history of this recipe, those flavors have become part of the cultural collective. Even as bakers modify the recipe with some chopped nuts or a sprinkle of sea salt, that combination of flour, butter, sugar and chocolate chips mostly remains the same.

Still, bakers are starting to experiment with new recipes. Whether it is using the microwave versus the oven or modifications with plant-based ingredients, the creativity in the kitchen continues to inspire home cooks to keep baking.

In honor of National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day, Nestle Toll House has launched a Remix the Original contest.

This baking contest is all about creativity. The only caveat is that the recipe must use Nestle Toll House morsels. Here are the contest rules.

The top eight most creative recipe submissions will battle in a bracket showdown to determine the ultimate remix of the original.

Thinking about this cookie contest, bakers need to push the boundaries in the creations. While taste is always the most important factor, the appearance of these cookies matter, too. The old phrase, we eat with our eyes, can play a role. Unfortunately, there is no smell-o-vision on Instagram.
