5 Thanksgiving side dishes that do not belong on the dinner table
By Brian Miller
Those tiny little Brussel sprouts should remain in your fridge until after Thanksgiving!
I’m not trying to hate on Brussel Sprouts, I love those little tightly wound balls of lettuce that are the perfect side dish after the holidays are over and I’m trying to shed the extra 10 pounds I put on from Thanksgiving to New Years!
Brussel Sprouts are incredibly versatile. You can glaze them, boil them, fry them, bake them, and I’m starting to sound like Bubba from Forrest Gump talking about shrimp, which also should not make an appearance near your turkey.
Sprouts are awesome but who wants to eat healthy at Thanksgiving and even if you dress them up and add cheese and sweet cream and butter to make, yes, a Brussel casserole, you are really doing nothing more than finding something else to feed your kids because you know as well as I do, that you are only going to plop one or two of them at the most on your plate while you expect everyone else to eat them.
I suppose in a way you can look at this is a filler to keep your kids, guests, family away from the far better options on the table which will leave you with more of the good stuff and them asleep on the couch full of green bean casserole, Brussel Sprouts, potato salad, mac and cheese, and sauerkraut! Good for you to figure it out and as the chef, we all know why we serve those dishes that simply don’t belong!
