Kitchen Rodeo and Tanqueray partner to help restaurants.

Have you attended a virtual cooking class? These types of classes have increased in popularity as many folks are seeking creative ways to entertain themselves while staying at home. I recently attended a Kitchen Rodeo “Shake and Stir” cooking class sponsored by Taqueray, makers of fine quality gin. And yes, I was right at home, wearing my fuzzy slippers, sipping a cocktail, having so much fun!

Distance-cook with friends, eat tasty food, and give back — what’s not to love? Kitchen Rodeo offers virtual cooking classes with well known chefs and mixologists. They give the proceeds from the cooking classes to the sponsors charity of choice. To date they’ve raised $108K for charitable causes.

Tanqueray donated $25,000 (+ 100% of the proceeds from the Shake and Stir classes) to support Relief Opportunities for All Restaurants (ROAR) and Independent Restaurant Coalition (IRC), both fighting to save independent restaurants.

The next Shake and Stir sponsored by Tanqueray will be on Thursday, November 19, at 7 pm EST. Hawa Hassan! is a talented chef, recipe developer and entrepreneur. She is the founder and CEO of Basbaas Sauce, condiments that reflect the tastes of her home country of Somalia. She is the author of the cookbook “In Bibi’s Kitchen” that feature recipes from grandmothers (known as bibis) in eight East African countries.  She will demonstrate how to make Bariis, a tradtional sweet and savory rice pilaf, perfect for a night in.

Expert Mixologist Robert Björn Taylor will join Chef Hassan, stirring up the Ramos Gin Fizz Wannabe, featuring spiced date syrup, toasted coconut and lime. He is based in Austin, Texas and has been crafting cocktails for years, most recently with Sourced, Craft Cocktails Delivered, a craft cocktail delivery service.  He also supports the Ideal Bartender Collective. This group is dedicated to supporting BIPOC bartenders and diversifying the beverage industry.

You can sign up for classes and get alerts about future cooking/cocktail classes here: kitchen.rodeo

While you are waiting for the next class to begin, you can find lots of fabulous cocktail recipes on the Tanqueray website. The botanicals in Tanqueray gin pair with so many flavors – rosemary, lemon, raspberry, cranberry and grapefruit to name just a few. Perfect flavors to perk us up this winter.
