Pumpkin Pie is the quintessential Thanksgiving pie but it’s not the best the holiday has to offer.

Is there a pie that exists that doesn’t immediately scream THANKSGIVING IS HERE! outside of the pumpkin pie? No there isn’t. Pumpkin pie is the creamy smooth dessert that almost every Thanksgiving table has on it.

Kids love it, adults love it, the crust is golden brown and flaky, and with a dollop of whip cream, the pie is perfect without the need for adding anything additional although ice cream isn’t all that bad.

There really isn’t much to say about this Thanksgiving treat that really has no place outside of Thanksgiving because it is simply too perfect for its one day a year premier and it’s one of those few pies that can be made from scratch or in a pinch, can be store-bought without a huge difference in taste or texture.

Rhubarb Pie has no business near any table but especially on Thanksgiving.

Rhubarb is a vegetable, but it is not a sweet potato. It is a root vegetable at that and while it looks really cool at the grocery store with its green leafy tops and pink stems, the tart veggie needs a lot of love and sweetener to get it just right. And even then, it’s not right.

Rhubarb pie was always around our Thanksgiving tables and I think that is because my mother really liked them and none of us kids did, so it was a free dessert she didn’t have to share. We were fine with that.

Honestly, I can’t remember what it tastes like because there was something sinister about eating the stems of a vegetable disguised as a pie. To this day, I don’t even like saying, let alone typing the word Rhubarb. If this pie is your go-to on Thanksgiving, have it at and enjoy!
