What’s happier than a leprechaun finding a pot of gold – a leprechaun drinking Irish Coffees! Always a special treat, Irish Coffees are traditionally made with freshly brewed coffee, sugar, Irish whiskey and lots of fluffy whipped cream on top. St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, is the perfect time to celebrate all things Irish including Irish Coffee.

To make your own Irish coffees you’ll want to begin with a fine quality Irish whiskey. Jameson Irish whiskey is the perfect choice to make authentic Irish coffees.

Jameson recently released their Cold Brew – a mixture of coffee and Irish whiskey – with notes of  toasted oak, dark chocolate and a rich coffee aroma. Enjoy these recipes featuring Jameson Cold Brew, also on their website:  Jameson Cold Brew Iced Latte, Jameson Cold Brew and Cola and Jameson Cold Brew Coffee Colada.

Did you know that the Buena Vista bar in San Francisco serves approximately 2,000 Irish Coffees a day? The original Irish Coffee was created in Ireland by Chef Joe Sheridan. In the 1950’s, travel journalist Stan Delaplane tasted this magical coffee in Ireland and when he returned to San Francisco, he and the owner of the Buena Vista set out to perfect Irish Coffee for the bars customers.

According to the Buena Vista website, the magic was in the cream, which had to be whipped to a certain consistency so it will float on top, with the clear coffee sitting below the cap of cream. Buena Vista baristas line up a dozen or more Irish Coffee glasses and pour the coffee then top with cream, to keep up with the demand. It is quite a production to watch in person.

If you prefer an icy cold drink to celebrate on St. Patrick’s Day – make a Nutty Irishman.  You’ll feel a bit nutty and you might want to dance a jig after sipping this drink made with Irish Whiskey,
kahlua, Bailey’s Irish Cream and Frangelico.

Looking for a lighter drink with less calories and sugar? Try adding Baileys Deliciously Light to your coffee. Hot or iced, you’ll enjoy this lighter version of cocoa and vanilla flavors in Irish cream. Find lots of fun tasty cocktail recipes on the Baileys Irish Cream website.
