Friends ice cream coming soon from Serendipity
Serendipity Brands is launching a Friends ice cream as part of a Warner Bros-inspired team-up promotion.
This news was previously reported by Food and Wine.
Central Perk Almond Fudge is the Friends ice cream flavor, which is (of course) mocha ice cream along with “decadent chocolate-covered almonds and fudge swirls” mixed in.
The iconic Central Perk orange couch is featured prominently on the label, contrasting nicely with the purple that dominates, and the Friends logo is highly visible as well.
While Friends is the only TV show as part of this promotion, it will become a permanent part of the Serendipity lineup, while the other classic movies featured include Caddyshack, The Goonies and A Christmas Story, all of which will be limited-time offers.
Friends ice cream is an interesting promotion.
“Friends is a pop culture classic that we couldn’t be more thrilled to create a special flavor for!” Sal Pesce, president and COO of Serendipity Brands, said in a press release. “Our Central Perk Almond Fudge flavor is nostalgia in a pint that makes you feel like you’re with your six best friends indulging in a sweet treat at a coffee shop.”
Friends was one of the most defining sitcoms of the 1990s, airing on NBC for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004, starring Jennifer Aniston as Rachel, Courteney Cox as Monica, Lisa Kudrow as the spacey Phoebe, Matt LeBlanc as Joey, Matthew Perry as the mysterious Chandler and David Schwimmer as Monica’s brother Ross, having many misadventures throughout New York City as they navigate early adulthood.
It seems a little odd for a TV promotion for a show that hasn’t aired in 17 years, but given its place in pop culture history (one of my professors in college once said every major communication problem could be found in either Friends or Seinfeld), and the ice cream itself sounds very tasty.
The Goonies, a 1985 teen adventure starring Sean Astin (Rudy, 50 First Dates, The Lord of the Rings) and Josh Brolin (Marvel Cinematic Universe), will have “Sloth and Chunk Rocky Road,” a coffee-flavored ice cream with marshmallows and almonds.
All four flavors have a suggested price of $5.99 for a pint, and are available both on the Serendipity website and in select stores.
