Summertime is the perfect time for an amaretto cocktail. The Italians know how to celebrate summer and this velvety almond liqueur is one of their favorites. Best enjoyed over a tinkling of ice in the bright sunshine or in the evening when the stars start to twinkle.

April 19, 2021 is National Amaretto Day. One of the most fun things about amaretto is it’s versatility.  Enjoy it neat or on ice as an appertif, in a cocktail prior to a meal or as an after dinner drink.

Italians are known for their pure enjoyment of life. Every evening just before dinner, they relax with an aperitivo hour when they often enjoy a small glass of amaretto to whet their appetites. Let’s join them, shall we?

Disaronno Originale is one of the best selling almond liqueurs. You will immediately recognize its iconic square shaped bottle designed in the 1970’s  by a master glassmaker from Murano, Venice.  And why stop at one Disaronno liqueur when you can have two? Disaronno Velvet is a sweet, fruity cream liqueur with notes of rich cream, vanilla, apricot and toffee on the palate.

One of the most refreshing amaretto cocktails to enjoy this summer is the Amaretto Sour: amaretto, bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup mixed into a froth with an egg white, garnished with a maraschino cherry.

Who can resist this seductive, sophisticated French Connection cocktail?  A simple mixture of amaretto and congac garnished with the zest of an orange. If you are a vodka martini fan, you will want to try your hand at making a DIS-A-TINI – Disaronno, vodka and dry vermouth. These cocktails and more can be found on the Disaronno website.

And for after dinner? Food and Wine Magazine recently shared a delightful cocktail recipe for Disaronno Velvet White Espresso Martini which combines Disaronno Velvet, Tia Maria, Vodka, with chocolate shavings and coffee bean garnish.
