As many KPop fans get excited about the BTS Meal, the newest announcement begs the question where does this menu rank within the McDonald’s Famous Orders Program. More importantly, do these celebrity meals show that McDonald’s brings everyone together under those Golden Arches?
Over the past several years, McDonald’s has shared many favorite celebrity meals. From the Super Bowl commercial that highlighted celebrity orders to the newer collaborations with people like Travis Scott and J Balvin, those McDonald’s Famous Orders are almost a page from the “Celebrities Are Like Us” page.
With the recent BTS Meal announcement, many people will be running to McDonald’s on May 26 to place this order. Included in the meal are “10-piece Chicken McNuggets, medium World Famous Fries, medium Coke.” Now, guests do not necessarily have to wait a month to place this particular part of the orders. It would be interesting to see if sales of this type of meal start to surge this week.
The difference with the BTS Meal is the addition of the Sweet Chili and Cajun dipping sauces. These items are not usually available in the U.S. These particular offerings have been inspired by McDonald’s recipes in South Korea. Although the brand did not state, it seems likely that the only way to enjoy these special dipping sauces is to order the celebrity meal. It will be interesting to see if these special sauces eventually find their way to the menu, permanently.
Why is the BTS Meal a great fit for the McDonald’s Famous Orders.
While the Travis Scott and J Balvin offerings were quite successful, the BTS Meal offers an even wider appeal. According to the company, the meal “will be available in nearly 50 countries across six continents.” The potential reach of this offering is huge. More importantly, it shows that McDonald’s has a worldwide reach that is unlike other brands. In a way, there is a unifying characteristic to this food launch. How many other brands can bring that many people together over a plate of food?
According to McDonald’s USA CMO Morgan Flatley, “BTS truly lights up the world stage, uniting people across the globe through their music. We’re excited to bring customers even closer to their beloved band in a way only McDonald’s can – through our delicious food – when we introduce the BTS signature order on our menu next month.”
This event isn’t the first time that BTS stepped into the food world. Previously, the band partnered with Coca-Cola on a special collaboration.
Given the success of the World Famous Meals, it begs the question, who will be next on the list. With this collaboration, it seems that McDonald’s is taking a global approach. What other global superstars will have the same reach as BTS? Maybe it is time for a sports superstar to step up to the mix.
