The weather is heating up and that means grilling season is on the way with Memorial Day weekend, Father’s Day and the official start of summer (June 20), and what does every backyard BBQ meal need? Condiments!

Here are the top five condiments your BBQ has to have, because without it, it will feel like your burger is missing something. Sometimes it’s the smallest flavors that make all the difference.

BBQ Sauce

How can you have a “BBQ” without BBQ sauce? After all, the whole occasion is named after the sauce. FYI, that is not a proven fact, just an opinion.

BBQ sauce is the perfect ratio of tarty and tangy and actually includes ingredients like ketchup, vinegar, brown sugar, honey, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, and even a little hot sauce.

This sauce is the secret ingredient to all marinated meat for your BBQ and it’s the key sauce that will have your guests saying, “mhmmm.”

No hot dog, burger, or chicken would be the same without that red dipping sauce that we all love so much.

The sweet and tangy condiment made from tomatoes, sugar, and vinegar, gives your grilling meals a mild enough touch of seasoning and spices.

Mustard

Ketchup’s best friend, mustard, at least for some people is made from the seeds of a mustard plant.

The yellow condiment is mixed with water, vinegar, lemon juice, wine, salt, and often other spices to create a yellow sauce. For those who like a little spice, mustard is also available in a spicy option.

Mayonnaise

Mayonnaise (aka mayo), is made from egg yolks, salt, vinegar and oil, which is why it is so much more denser than other condiments. The thick dressing gives a creamy touch to hamburgers, salads, and even the much needed side of potato salad.

Hot Sauce

The perfect blend of heat and flavor comes from that tingling red hot sauce. The distilled vinegar, red peppers, salt, water, canola oil, paprika, butter and garlic powder are basically all the ingredients you’d want to add to everything. Be sure to have this condiment on the side in case some of your guests can’t take the fire.
