Pineapple

I’m sure I struck I nerve with half of you reading this.

Because of all the toppings on this list, pineapple is, without a doubt, the most controversial. No single food item sparks debate like this one does.

But as I always say, the only fruit that belongs on top of pizza is the tomato in the sauce.

To be fair, I don’t necessarily believe pineapple is the worst possible topping for pizza, but it’s certainly one of the more popular toppings that go against the norm. For that reason alone, I just couldn’t keep it off of the list.

Pineapple pizza is commonly believed to have originated in Hawaii, hence the name “Hawaiian Pizza.” However, pineapple pizza was actually birthed in Canada. So as you can see, we are already dealing with a pizza full of lies.

As for the why it doesn’t work?

It’s simply clashes with the base ingredients of a pizza. For starters, the acidity of the pineapple combines with the acidity of the tomato sauce. Heartburn anyone?

Not to mention, it’s far too sweet and fruity, causing the flavor of the pineapple to completely overtake the other flavors of an otherwise perfect food creation.

But listen, I only eat pizza for about 97 percent of my meals, so what do I really know?

Whether you agree with this list or not, one thing we can all agree with is the fact that pizza continues to evolve, for better or for worse.
