Looking for the ultimate MVP, most valuable plant-based food, for that football tailgate? Tahj Mowry is a huge football fan. While many people might be longing for that Super Guy reboot, the popular actor is ready to kick off football season and is sharing some of his top food picks.

During a recent conversation with FoodSided, Mowry shared how he focuses on a balanced, healthy eating lifestyle. While no one wants to miss out on classic tailgating food, the idea of going totally off the plan isn’t always the best choice. Just like a long drive that ticks down the play clock, the best wins are all about smart choices.

That type of balanced lifestyle is important to Mowry. He said, “personally, I try to maintain a healthy lifestyle by eating plant-based as much as possible. There are lots of plant-based options to satisfy my gameday cravings, from black bean burgers to veggie buffalo wings. You don’t have to be a full-time vegetarian to enjoy veggie options either. Not only are they delicious, but plant-based eating is better for the environment, so that’s a win-win in my book.”

Thinking about that idea, the healthy eating balance is applying more and more to gameday eats. As seen with the San Francisco 49ers partnership with MorningStar Farms and Incogmeato, football fans do not have to compromise when it comes to great football food and healthy eating food choices.

For Mowry, this football season will be an exciting one. As the season kicks off, he appreciates that it is both food and fun being served on gameday.

Mowry said, “I’m a big football fan and love hosting tailgating parties. It’s all about spending time with friends and family—and of course the snacks! My favorite gameday dishes are the spicier options like chips and hot salsa. I’m not sure they bring my team luck, but it definitely makes tailgating even more fun.”

But, anyone who has hosted tailgating parties understands, there can be a party foul, on occasion. Although no one wants to spill on that lucky jersey, Mowry has a different thought on that party foul moment.

Commenting on party fouls, Mowry said, “On the subject of food, a big party foul to me is not having enough for the entire game—you need to keep a deep bench. I always make sure to plan ahead and stock up on plenty of apps and main dishes to stay in the game.”

What does Tahj Mowry pick as his gameday food MVP?

While the food spread is plentiful at his gameday parties, Mowry narrowed down a few options. He said, “It’s hard to choose a favorite. I’m a big fan of the MorningStar Farms Veggie Pepperoni Pizza Bites, but my new MVP has to be the Veggie Chorizo Nacho Bites with fresh salsa and guacamole.”

And, which team jersey will Mowry be sporting this year. For him, football is family time.

Mowry shared, “We live in Los Angeles, so in our family it’s all about the Rams! Personally, I’m also a 49ers fan, which is another reason I’m excited to partner with MorningStar Farms—they’re actually the official plant-based protein of the San Francisco 49ers. I think that’s very cool.”

Even though everyone wants their favorite team to be on top of the leader board, there was one more question that had to be asked. When can fans expect that Smart Guy reboot.

Mowry revealed, “We’re still in the early stages of talking about a reboot, so stay tuned!”
