The food world has been obsessed with Buttered Pop-Tarts. According to Kellogg’s, there have been “6,946 tweets about Pop-Tarts and Butter this year.” While it is surprising that someone is tweeting about Pop-Tarts and butter almost every hour, the flavor combination had the brand thinking. Isn’t it time to give that food combination the ultimate flavor upgrade?

While many people enjoy unlikely flavor combinations, the reality is that butter on top of a Pop-Tart is tasty. It is one of the many ways that people enjoy the classic toaster pastry. From freezing them for an ice cream like experience to various other food hacks, there is always a reason to have at least one box in the pantry.

With the buttered Pop-Tarts concept, the brand appreciates that the flavor can go beyond the choice of salted, unsalted or even whipped. Why not add some additional flavor to the food experience.

The Buttered Pop-Tarts conversation is changing.

In collaboration with Banner Butter, the brands have created a Pop-Tarts x Butter Kit. The offer blends flavored butters with particular Pop-Tarts flavors. While many people have tweeted about this food find, they may not have tried these particular flavor combinations.

According to Sarah Reinecke, senior director of marketing, portable wholesome snacks at Kellogg Company, “It’s thrilling to hear how passionate some Pop-Tarts fans are about topping our toaster pastries with butter — they’re taking their Pop-Tarts love to a new level. We wanted to deliver a crave-worthy kit that makes it even easier to toast up the sweet, salt and buttery combo of their wildest Pop-Tarts dreams, and we can’t wait to see how they mix and match with Banner Butters.”

Talking about the partnership, Andrew McBath, co-founder of Banner Butter, said, “We’re always churning up new butter flavors that deliver big on taste. When Pop-Tarts came to us asking if we’d partner with them to create the ultimate Pop-Tarts and butter pairings, we jumped at the chance.”

Specifically, Banter Butter is offering six slow-cultured butters. The flavors are Cinnamon, Cardamom and Ginger, Balsamic Fig and Caramelized Onion, and Sea Salt, Strawberry, Chocolate. In addition, the Honey Habanero flavor is an exclusive flavor for this collaboration.

The special kit pairs these butters with the Pop-Tarts flavors of Frosted Strawberry, Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon and Frosted Chocolate Fudge. While the kit includes these flavors, anyone can experiment with their favorite flavors.

Looking at the Pop-Tarts and butters, the must try combination is the Strawberry with the Balsamic Fig and Caramelized Onion butter. These classic flavors always go together. It offers a savory approach to the traditionally sweet toaster pastry.

The Sea Salt and Chocolate is an obvious pairing. Just like salted caramel is a delightful flavor, a little salt on chocolate is equally as tasty.

The Honey Habanero would work with all three Pop-Tarts flavors. The combination of sweet heat could have the box and the butter gone in one sitting.

Overall, the butters and the Pop-Tarts can be mixed and matched. It could be a fun day to see which flavor earns top billing around the table. Why not make this idea Sunday brunch.

The Pop-Tarts x Butter Kit will be available online starting on November 16 at noon ET. It will be available while supplies last.
