Updated latkes recipes make Hanukkah celebrations even more magical

During the eight nights of Hanukkah, latkes fill the table. While grandma might have her tried and true recipe, updated latkes recipes could make the traditional Jewish holiday food a bigger celebration.

Like many holiday celebrations, food is often the center of the event. Although many holidays have their specific food connections, the reasoning for having latkes on the table during Hanukkah is quite simple. The dish is meant to remind celebrants of the miracle of the oil, which is at the heart of the Hanukkah holiday.

Latkes are generally fried in oil. As the potato pancakes get crisp in the oil, there is another message than just a delicious bite. While a perfectly fried latke can be magical, it is also a representation of perseverance.
