The holidays can bring lots of festive cheer, but the holiday break-up curse can put a damper on the merry and bright. Smirnoff and Lance Bass are shaking up a special cocktail that will say bye, bye, bye to the relationship drama.

Did you know that December 11 is when more couples break up? Whether it is the pressure of taking someone to a holiday party, avoiding “that” gift scenario, or worry about introducing a special someone to the family, the end of the year may not sparkle brightly for everyone. Instead of letting that grinchy feelings ruin the moment, it is time for a PSA, a Public Smirnoff announcement.

Speaking to this special announcement, Jennifer Holiday Hudson, Trademark Marketing Leader & Vodka Director of Smirnoff shared, “As a brand all about flavor, boldness, and bringing people together for good times, we would be remiss to not head into the holiday season with some cheer and sparkle. It was brought to our attention that December 11th is the busiest breakup day of the year. In true Smirnoff form, we decided to give this day a positive Smirnoff spin with a first-ever PSA (Public Smirnoff Announcement) – featuring our NEW limited time offering Red, White & Merry and superstar talent partner Lance Bass – to reverse the ‘curse’ (is there another word we can us) and replace it with love and joy. Lance and his husband Michael did just that and continue to be such great partners of the Smirnoff family.”

Lance Bass and his husband Michael have joined with Smirnoff to shake up a festive cocktail featuring the liquor brand’s Red, White and Merry flavor. The limited time offering brings a zesty, spicy flavor to all those favorite vodka cocktails. Featuring notes of bright orange, tart cranberry, and warm ginger, no one will say bah humbug to toasting with this special libation.

Although a cocktail might not solve all relationship squabbles, the reality is that a little fun can help take the stress out of the season. No one wants to get their tinsel in a tangle. Whether it is a spirited cocktail to unwind after all that holiday shopping or a sparkly sipper that makes the gathering even more fun, the limited-edition Red, White and Merry flavor can be that offering.

The flavored vodka takes the stress out of shaking up a cocktail. To showcase the flavor, Smirnoff suggests its Holiday Cosmo. Here’s how to make one.

Holiday Cosmo

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 OZ Smirnoff Red White and Merry
  • 3/4 OZ Fresh Lime Juice
  • 1/2 OZ Cranberry Syrup
  • 2 Dashes Angostura Bitters
  • 2 Dashes Orange Bitters
  • 1 Sage Leaf, for garnish

Method:

  • Fill a shaker with ice
  • Add Smirnoff Red White & Merry
  • Pour in the lime juice
  • Add cranberry syrup
  • Add bitters
  • Shake for about 10 seconds
  • Pour into a martini glass
  • Garnish with a sage leaf

While this cocktail sparkles and shines, it is not the only way to use this seasonal spirit. A simple mule cocktail would be equally as tasty. Consider adding a little flare to the glass with some fresh cranberries and even a sprig of rosemary.

This holiday season the only break-up that should be on the agenda is stepping away from boring, bland cocktails. Add some Smirnoff Red White and Merry to the glass and toast the holiday full of cheer.
