The Great Food Truck Race is quickly racing toward the finish line, with episode 6 marking the final stretch of episodes in the season. Episode 6 sees the teams heading out to Virginia Beach, Virginia, where one team’s past finally catches up to them while two of the race’s top competitors begin to conspire against one another.

Before we get into episode 6, let’s quickly recap the events of last week!

Who went home last week on The Great Food Truck Race?

For the first time this season of The Great Food Truck Race, we had a non-elimination episode with no teams going home from the race. This was an unexpected twist to the episode as Chef Tyler Florence revealed that just like in a NASCAR race, the leg has laps and the totals would be carrying over from the Darlington leg into the Virginia Beach leg.

Had there been an elimination, it would have been Stop Drop N Roll, who went home despite winning the two challenges on Day 1. Thankfully, they're getting another chance following the non-elimination leg of the race; however, they'll be starting the Virginia Beach leg behind the rest of the teams.

Totals from the previous leg carry over into the leg with the following standings heading into lap two:

  1. Good Fortune - $6,563
  2. Nishaan - $6,076
  3. Cooking with Que - $5,633
  4. Stop Drop N Roll - $5,468

Day 1 brings about a She-crab soup inspired challenge

After some drama at the end of the previous leg, Cooking with Que worked through the issues they faced in Darlington before the teams head out to meet Chef Tyler at the beach.

On the beach, Tyler reminds the teams of their standings from the previous week and lays out the first challenge of the leg of the race. In honor of the city’s iconic She-crab soup, Tyler challenges the teams to take their best-selling dish, remove the protein from it, and turn it into a She-crab special. The first team to sell $200 worth of specials will earn $300 for their tills, but that’s just the first part of the challenge.

Judges from the She-crab soup classic will be stopping by each truck to try their specials, and the team with the dish that impresses them most will win $500 for their till. This means that there is $800 on the line for the teams, and one team could win both challenges!

Cooking with Que goes with a She-crab mac and cheese, Good Fortune picks a Singaporean She-crab slap noodle special, Stop Drop N Roll runs with a crab cake egg roll, while Nishaan lands on a Pakistani banh mì crab roll. The teams quickly get to cooking as they race to sell enough specials to sail past the $200 mark first and win the $300 for their till.

It’s a tight race with Stop Drop N Roll and Good Fortune quickly emerging as the frontrunners, and the pair end up hitting the $200 sales mark simultaneously in the edit, leaving us to wonder who would win. When Chef Tyler announces the winner, it turns out we have a tie with the two teams splitting the $300. While Stop Drop N Roll is excited to be walking away with at least part of the challenge money, Good Fortune isn’t thrilled with the tie and sees it as a loss.

From there, we head right into the taste portion of the challenge as the teams serve up their specials to a panel of judges. These judges don’t hold back and offer up some critiques of each of the dishes, making it hard to know will come away with the win

After tasting each dish, the judges make their decision and give the win to Stop Drop N Roll! That’s $500 for their till for winning the taste challenge, and a total of $650 bonus money for their challenge wins that likely have helped them dig a bit out of their last place standing from the previous leg.

Day 2 in Virginia Beach has the teams struggling for sales

Heading into Day 2, the teams each must find their own place to sell, but somehow all end up back at the boardwalk hoping to recreate the solid sales they had on Day 1. Unfortunately, things get off to a really slow start with all of the teams struggling to draw in customers.

As the fight for sales rages on, Stop Drop N Roll singles out Good Fortune, not liking how they reacted at the previous elimination, in which they called themselves “unstoppable” after winning the leg. Stop Drop N Roll works hard to get every customer they can and isn't against throwing some shade Good Fortune’s way in the process.

Meanwhile, Cooking with Que gets an unexpected visit from Ari’s family in the area who show up to support their family. While Nishaan struggles so much they drop prices down to try to bring people in.

Enter Tyler, who calls up the teams to issue the Day 2 challenge. Drawing from the coast’s rich history, they’re tasked with using the “three sisters” vegetables grown by those in the area: corn, beans, and squash. Each team is challenged with making a three sisters dish, which utilizes the three vegetables, with the team turning out the most delicious dish winning $900. That $900 will then be split with two other teams in the spirit of the three sisters with the winning team getting to choose who they want to split the prize with.

Additionally, in celebration of the 15th anniversary of World Central Kitchen, an organization which sends chefs in to help create meals on the front line,  they’re going to match the highest-earning team’s sales and donate to World Central Kitchen in their names.

For the challenge, Cooking with Que turns out a white chicken chili, which fails to impress Tyler. Stop Drop N Roll serves up some nachos, which Tyler enjoys, but feels are lacking a dairy component such as cheese or sour cream. Good Fortune goes with a Kimchi pancake, which impressed Tyler, while Nishaan makes up a three sisters dosa, which Tyler seems to enjoy most.

Who went home on The Great Food Truck Race this week?

Shortly after tasting all of the Day 2 three sisters dishes, Tyler brings sales to an end and decides to make teams wait until the elimination to reveal that it was Nishaan who cooked his favorite dish. This gives Nishaan the opportunity to share in their win, by giving two other teams money for their till. After careful consideration, they choose to share their winnings with Cooking with Que and Good Fortune by giving both teams $100 each and adding $700 to their personal total.

We also learn that Stop Drop N Roll sold the most on Day 2 so a donation to World Central Kitchen in their name.

Then came the time for the results. Taking the win with $11,578 in sales from both legs was Nishaan, who came in at the top of the leaderboard. As for who went home? That would be Stop Drop N Roll, whose journey came to an end just two legs before the finale. Here’s how the final leaderboard shook out:

  1. Nishaan - $11,578
  2. Good Fortune - $10,921
  3. Cooking with Que - $10,780
  4. Stop Drop N Roll - $10,107 - Eliminated
