Avocado fries, crispy way to indulge on your favorite superfood

Avocado, a favorite superfood, is more than just an ingredient in guacamole. Avocado fries are a crispy way to indulge in avocados.

From Hass avocados to Florida avocados, this tree grown fruit is everywhere. On July 31, National Avocado Day, people have a good reason to enjoy avocados at least one meal. While everyone knows guacamole, many more dishes feature the favorite superfood. How about avocado fries?

According to a 2015 Hass Avocado Board report, “avocado consumption in the United States doubled since 2005 and quadrupled since 2000.” This increase represents consumers enjoying avocados in many ways. Whether for the taste or the purported health benefits, avocados are here to stay.

Many dieticians, publications and the like recommend eating avocados for their health benefits. High in Omega 3 fatty acids, this component can help heart health and lower cholesterol. Some people choose avocados as a replacement for other high calorie foods. For example, instead of a sandwich spread, mashed avocados can be a better food choice.

Avocado fries are perfect example of an avocado substitution. French fries can be a great treat, but the side dish may not top the healthy charts. A great substitute is using fried avocado slices instead of fried potato.

With the right coating, these fries can taste even better than a regular, old French fry. While many food sites have recipes, I would rather enjoy these type of fries than cook them. When I’m craving my fried superfood indulgence, I head to Cabo Flats.

Cabo Flats is a cantina and tequila bar with multiple locations in South Florida. Hands down, my favorite appetizer is the avocado fries. These crunchy, slices of avocado are a definite must order. With a panko coating, the fries are crispy and light. The texture is perfect and offers a satisfying crunch. Served with a roasted garlic cilantro aioli, I would chose this appetizer over guacamole any day. Who needs chips when you have everything in a single bite.

Of course, any good dish needs an equally good beverage to sip while eating. I would recommend the Jalapeño Cilantro Margarita. This margarita is a wonderful savory infused cocktail. The heat from the jalapeno balances the sweet/tart from the margarita. With the brightness of the cilantro, sipping just one of these margaritas with the avocado fries’ appetizer takes some extra willpower.

Whether celebrating National Avocado Day or just wanting to enjoy your favorite superfood, try some avocado fries. You might never look at regular French fries the same.
