Slowly warming over a steaming, warm beverage, the newest addition to Daelmans products is chocolate caramel stroopwafels.

The Dutch breakfast treat is quickly becoming an American favorite. Considered a cookie, the treat is believed to originate in Gouda. Basically, the sweet snack is two thin waffles sandwiching a layer of caramel. While you can eat these waffles straight out of the package, they are best enjoyed with a hot beverage.

Ideally, a stroopwafel is placed on top of a warm beverage. As the waffle sits on the beverage, the steam warms the cookie. The waffle becomes chewy and gooey. Ideally, you should let the stroopwafel warm for at least 5 minutes. But, waiting that five minutes to eat it can be hard.

Personally, I prefer to eat my stroopwafel a small piece at a time. Some people prefer to dip the waffle into the beverage. Either way, the stroopwafel is a sweet, yet filling, breakfast or anytime treat.

Daelmans is a popular stroopwafel brand. Some travelers may have tasted their stroopwafels on United’s morning flights. The stroopwafel is the breakfast treat on United. More and more people are enjoying this Dutch treat.

Recently, Daelmans expanded its stroopwafel line. Joining the traditional flavor and the mini version is the chocolate stroopwafel. Fans of the Dutch treat and chocolate are rejoining.

The new chocolate caramel version offers a thin, chocolate waffle with the same caramel layer as the traditional version. The chocolate flavor is more dark chocolate than sweet milk chocolate. The darker, more robust chocolate balances the sweet, creamy caramel.

In my opinion, this chocolate caramel version is a lovely companion to a full-bodied coffee. The chocolate and caramel balance the strong coffee. Whether satisfying morning start or a gratifying indulgence, these chocolate waffles can become addicting.

The chocolate variety of the Daelman’s stroopwafels were introduced earlier this year. Based on responses from both stroopwafel fans and new tasters, the chocolate variety may become the most popular version. The original will never go away, but maybe a variety pack could be on the horizon. Such an option would give stroopwafel fans the best of both worlds.

Daelmans chocolate caramel stroopwafels and original stroopwafels are available at various retailers including Amazon, Cost Plus and specialty stores.

Pour yourself a warm beverage, grab a stroopwafel and take a moment to enjoy every sweet, caramel waffle bite.
