Have you noticed that ice coffee is more of a sweet treat? Dunkin’ Donuts wants to bring Baskin-Robbins ice cream flavors to its popular iced coffee.

During the warm summer months, ice coffee is a popular beverage. The refreshing cold coffee drink is a great sip to alleviate the summer warmth. But, iced coffee is getting sweeter and sweeter. No longer just black coffee or coffee with a hint of cream, iced coffee has become a sweet treat.

A quick glance at Dunkin’ Donuts ice coffee menu, the flavor combinations look more like dessert options than a morning cup of java. Caramel, vanilla and chocolate sound like an ice cream menu. Dunkin’ Donuts must have though the same thing because some classic ice cream flavors might become an iced coffee.

Now through August 25, everyone can vote on which of the five Baskin-Robbins ice cream flavors will become a summer 2018 Dunkin’ Donuts iced coffee. The ice cream flavors up for contention are:

"Butter Pecan: The indulgent butter roasted pecan and sweet cream flavors have met their match in Dunkin’ Donuts iced coffee.Cookie Dough: This flavor will transport taste buds to the moments just before cookies are popped into the oven with the sweet taste of cookie dough. Pistachio: Pistachio ice cream lovers will go nuts for the sweet pistachio taste of this iced coffee flavor. Rocky Road: A true ice cream fan’s dream featuring chocolate, marshmallow and almond flavors. Jamoca® Almond Fudge: This coffee-inspired flavor gives taste buds a buzz with the flavor of coffee combined with roasted almonds and chocolate."

All of these flavors are great for ice cream, but I’m not sure if I want to drink them. The butter pecan seems like the easier cross over to iced coffee. Nut flavors in coffee make sense. Think about hazelnut and almond that work well with coffee. This coffee choice seems logical.

I’m not sure about cookie dough flavor. I really want to like this choice, but it just seems odd to me. I want to dunk my cookie in my coffee. Drinking my cookie flavored coffee doesn’t seem right. But, I have a feeling that I’m in the minority. People love cookie dough ice cream. If the iced coffee was a fraction of calories for the ice cream treat, that coffee beverage could be a diet lovers’ dream.

Jamoca Almond Fudge and Rocky Road seem a little too muddle for an iced coffee. Usually iced coffee flavors are more about a single flavor than these multiple combinations. I think that these two choices could become a super sweet sip.

As for Pistachio, I’m really confused about this choice. To me, pistachio just doesn’t fit. Don’t get me wrong, some people love pistachios. I’m just not seeing the flavor for coffee.
