Are the contestants prepared for MasterChef Season 9 episode 9 and its mystery box? Fresh seafood could be not as easy as they think.
In MasterChef Season 9 episode 9, the glow from the MasterChef wedding has faded and everyone is back in competition mode. This week’s episode features a mystery box that might have everyone feeling a little fishy. Who will make it to the next round?
According to FOX, this week’s episode, “The Big Not Easy”, features “The contestants face a difficult mystery box filled with fresh seafood; an elimination challenge involving Salisbury steak.”

Seafood is always a tricky ingredient for the contestants. It will be interesting to see if the contestants have to break down a fish or cook it whole. Since a previous episode already covered crab, this episode has to be something more unique than just fish.

Based on the episode title, it appears that the episode could have a Louisiana theme. Aaron Sanchez has a restaurant in New Orleans and it appears that he might be cooking in this episode. Maybe Aaron will give some good advice to the contestants about cooking fish correctly.
The only downside to potentially having a New Orleans style mystery box would be that the contestants usually only have limited time to cook. New Orleans style food takes a long time to develop and marry all the flavors. This process can’t be rushed. No one wants bland Cajun food.
As for the elimination challenge, does anyone really like Salisbury steak? That recipe sounds tired and boring. Let’s home that Gordon can add something special to that old school recipe.
