MasterChef Season 9 episode 21 live stream: Watch online

In MasterChef Season 9 episode 21, four home cooks must impress a trio of highly acclaimed celebrity chefs. Could this one entrée bring them glory?

MasterChef Season 9 episode 21 is the semi-finals. Only four chefs remain. As the pressure mounts in these final challenges, the home cooks are prepared for their moment of greatness. Can they impress the culinary elite?

According to FOX, the semi-final episode features, “the final four split into two teams to cook one entrée for the judges’ mentors: chefs Daniel Boulud, Jonathan Waxman and Lidia Bastianich; three chefs move on to the finale.”

Looking at the judges’ mentors, it is obvious that Lydia Bastianich is Joe’s mentor. The queen of Italian cuisine has an impressive pedigree. She has cooked for the pope. Very few chefs have had that honor. Many of Lydia’s dishes are rustic, but highlight clean flavors. The home cooks will have to cook well to impress her.

  • As for the other two chefs/mentors, my best guess is that Daniel Boulud pairs with Gordon Ramsay and Jonathan Waxman pairs with Aaron Sanchez. Boulud isn’t Gordon’s real mentor. It has been said that Gordon’s mentor is the Marco Pierre White. Still, Boulud’s elevated, classic, beautiful cuisine seems like the right match. The restaurant Daniel in New York is definitely culinary perfection.

Jonathan Waxman and Aaron seem like a likely pairing. The original rock n’ roll chef and godfather of California cuisine seems to match up well with Aaron. Both chefs create authentic, locally sourced cuisine. While the genres might be different, they seem to have a similar aesthetic. Plus, they both have a love of music.

As for which home cooks will make the finale, it’s quite uncertain. My best guess is that Cesar and Ashley are strong contenders and will probably make the finale. Geron and Samantha are a toss-up. It will depend on the entrée and how well it is executed.
