Hell’s Kitchen Season 18 premiere is here with an all new format. This season will have a team of veterans versus rookies, but only one chef will earn the grand prize.

The kitchen is open. That’s right Hell’s Kitchen Season 18 premiere Rookies vs. Veterans is airing on FOX. Gordon Ramsay and his signature executive chef style have returned to the popular cooking competition. In a new twist for the popular food TV show, the two teams are divided between veterans and rookies. Can the veterans earn redemption or will the rookies rule the kitchen?

According to FOX, Hell’s Kitchen Season 18 premiere, episode 1, Rookies vs. Veterans, states:

"Eight previous contestants return to battle against eight ambitious rookies for a chance at the grand prize; the rookie chefs prepare the best versions of their signature dishes within 45 minutes; the veterans must attempt to create the same dishes."

It will be interesting to see the rookie chefs’ signature dishes. Some chefs might want to stand out and choose dishes that are very intricate or have layered, depth of flavor. Other chefs might choose a simplistic, clean approach. Watching how and what these chefs cook could give some insight on how far they could go in the competition.

The veterans have a more difficult task with dish recreation. It will be interesting to see if the veterans have to recreate the dishes exactly or if they use the signature dishes as inspiration. Recreating a dish from just a taste is quite difficult. While the dishes with layered, complex flavors might appear more difficult, the simple, clean dishes could spell disaster for the veteran chefs.

While I haven’t seen any of this season’s episodes, I am leaning towards a rookie team. Sometimes the veterans could be over confident. Although this type of reality cooking competition isn’t like cooking on the line in a professional kitchen, the rookies are hungry. They want to prove themselves. Sometimes that situation will drive a chef farther than redemption.
