Halloween Wars Season 8 premiere is here and fans are ready to get spooked. Will the Boogeyman be scary or too sweet?
Are you ready for the spooky, yet sweet? One of Food Network’s favorite Halloween shows is back. Halloween Wars Season 8 premiere airs tonight and the competition is fierce. Which team of three can earn the ultimate Halloween prize?
According to the Food Network, the Halloween Wars Season 8 premiere synopsis states:
"Six teams, each consisting of an expert pumpkin carver, a cake artist and a sugar master, dive into the first battle of the season. They have to create mind-blowing and yummy Halloween-themed displays that depict a monstrous creature so scary that it’s the Boogeyman’s greatest nightmare. Actor Sean Gunn of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie franchise joins the judging panel."
Each episode is broken into two challenges, the small scare and the spine chiller. For winning the weekly small scare, that team will receive an extra helper for the larger challenge. At the end of each episode, one team is eliminated until just one team remains standing. That team will win the $50,000 prize and the title.
Guilty Eats
For this particular Food Network competition, the fun part of each episode is to see how each team creates a realistic, creepy, horrific scene incorporating pastry, sugar and pumpkin. Looking at many of these designs, it is truly amazing that all the items are made from food. Sure, there is an underlying structure, but real, edible food is the basis for these creations.
Thinking about the theme for this week, nightmares are a difficult subject. One person’s nightmare may not seem scary to someone else. While I might fear spiders, someone else might keep them as pets. The key to this theme is to bring the scary in each and every element.
While the designs are always impressive, I always look for the tasting element in each design. That tasting element needs to bring the whole theme together. I wonder how a pastry chef/baker is going to make a treat that is also a nightmare.
