Of course, the turkey represents the biggest cost associated with Thanksgiving dinner. On average, a 16-pound turkey costs $21.71. Truthfully, the cost of a turkey can vary greatly. While some stores might have sales, the type of turkey can cause the price to fluctuate. Fresh, frozen or even organic can make the costs go up or down.

  • Still, this year’s cost is the lowest since 2014, according to this survey. Turkey isn’t the only food showing a decrease in cost. A gallon of milk, sweet potatoes and rolls have all gone down in price.

Unfortunately, a few holiday favorites did see an increase in price. Pumpkin pie mix, cranberries and even stuffing saw slight increases. While the cost is more, the increase wasn’t so detrimental that people will avoid buying this holiday food favorites.

While this survey represents an average Thanksgiving dinner, it doesn’t include all those extras that many people put on the table. Since some people may not agree on potatoes, stuffing and various other side dishes, the Thanksgiving feast can get out of control. It can be quite easy to spend closer to $100 on dinner in a hurry.
