The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel brings back the iconic Carnegie Deli
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel wants everyone to experience a slice of iconic 1958 New York City. The infamous Carnegie Deli reappears for a short time.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, the award winning Prime Original Series, offers a glimpse of the life and culture of New York City in 1958. The iconic New York deli and its delicious offerings might have gone through a few transformations in the past 60 years. Still, those timeless dishes hold a special place in both the culture and memories for many people.
One of the most infamous New York City landmarks was Carnegie Deli. After 79 years, this institution closed in 2016. From the rubens with pastrami piled high to a gigantic knish, the restaurant’s dishes were more than just typical deli foods. They were a plate of comfort, nostalgia and a link to generations past.
Thanks to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel those scrumptious dishes and that iconic feel is making a limited time appearance in New York City. From November 29 through December 8, the infamous Carnegie Deli returns in a real life through a pop-up replica restaurant.

In this pop-up experience, all the details are set to create a fully authentic 1950s experience. From the décor to even the pricing, fans will feel transported back to years past. Even if you know nothing about this show, why would you not stop by to enjoy a delicious bite from this infamous deli. Plus, who would turn down 99 cent sandwiches?
According to the press release, the special pop-up restaurant will serve original sandwiches names after the show’s characters, cheesecake and a NYC staple, the black and white cookie. One sandwich will be the must try, “The Maisel – a sandwich worth the schlep.” This sandwich will feature the authentic Carnegie pastrami, salami, coleslaw and special sauce which is served on rye bread.
Since this pop-up is said to be authentic 1950s, the prices reflect that time period. 99 cent sandwiches could have the lines getting quite busy. No can even buy a water dog in NYC for that price. More importantly, “Prime Video will be donating all of the proceeds from the pop-up to The Lower Eastside Girls Club (LESGC), a safe haven with programs in the arts, sciences, leadership, entrepreneurship, and wellness for middle and high school girls.”
While this entertaining experience is great for New Yorkers, a few other cities can join the fun. From December 9 through December 16, “The Maisel” will be added to Canter’s Deli in Los Angeles, California, Manny’s Deli in Chicago, Illinois and Mamaleh’s Deli in Cambridge, Massachusetts. “Each location will serve up to 50 of the tasty sammies a day, free of charge to excite taste buds and fans across the nation.”
