Top Chef Season 16 episode 11 finally brings the challenge that many fans have been expecting. Will the chefs’ fried chicken live up to the Colonel’s original?

Are you ready for Top Chef Season 16 episode 11? For many Top Chef fans, this episode could be a favorite from this Kentucky season. With Art Smith as a guest judge, these chefs definitely need to bring their fried chicken expertise.

According to Bravo, this week’s episode synopsis states:

"The chefs take a turn at fried chicken; Chef Art Smith judges a secret herbs-and-spices blind taste test ahead of the Quickfire fry-off; after the finger licking goodness, the chefs turn their attention to boxer Muhammad Ali, aka the Louisville Lip."

Of course, the Quickfire will have people talking. While the Colonel won’t ever reveal the secret behind that original recipe, the chefs take on fried chicken will be quite interesting. Although southern fried chicken might be one approach, there are numerous other ways to think about fried chicken. Even within Nashville, there are so many different approaches to fried chicken.

Given the Hoop Dream episode, the smack talking in the fried chicken challenge could be a factor. Two fried chicken and waffles did battle last week. One was the better chicken; one was the better waffle. Could the same outcome happen again?

The second challenge is quite curious. Muhammad Ali is an icon, but his connection to the food world isn’t clear. While there doesn’t need to be a direct connection, it will be curious to see if the phrase Louisville Lip is really used.

That particular phrase relates to Ali’s big mouth, but he was able to back up all that smack talk. In some cases, chefs can have big egos. Sometimes their food can stand up to that bravado and sometimes it doesn’t.

As Top Chef Season 16 starts to creep towards the finale, picking a favorite isn’t really possible. With the Top Chef curse going strong (Michelle eliminated last week after winning the previous week), anyone could have a bad night. Still, the middle isn’t available anymore. A chef will either be in the top or in the bottom.
