Best Baker in America Season 3 episode 2 preview

In this week’s Best Baker in America episode, the talented competitors must smash their way to the next round, but it there a surprise in store?

Best Baker in America tempts food fans with impressive desserts. After last week’s princess cakes and royally inspired baby shower cakes, these bakers learned that the tiny details do matter. Will this week’s challenges be a smashing success?

According to the Food Network, this week’s Best Baker in America episode, “Surprise Desserts” synopsis states:

"The theme is surprises, and the eight competitors are tasked with showing their mastery of molten lava cakes. In the Master Challenge, the bakers must create smashable desserts using meringue, sugar or chocolate and coconut as the featured flavor. Acclaimed pastry chef Sherry Yard joins judges Marcela Valladolid and Jason Smith to decide which baker goes home."

For the skills challenge, it is curious that molten lava cakes are a required task. While everyone loves that dessert, the story behind the original cake is quite humorous. It is amazing that a “mistake” has turned into a beloved dessert.

Still, perfectly under-baking a cake does take skill. Hopefully, some of these bakers will find ways of adding innovative flavors to this classic dessert.

For the Master Challenge, the bakers have a quite difficult task. A smashable dessert requires a steady hand. Even the smallest mistake will cause a catastrophe.

Looking at a few of the preview videos, this episode will definitely be fun to watch. There is something quite satisfying about watching a dessert be smashed.

Also, this challenge is easier than previous baking challenges where the bakers had to “melt” the reveal. This smashed version doesn’t require that all the flavors blend together.

Additionally, the use of coconut in these desserts is a little curious. Coconut can be a little tricky in a dessert. While it can offer texture, the balance of flavors will be key.
