MasterChef Season 10 episode 2: Welcome to the Battle Round

With only eight aprons remaining, a new group of home cooks dream of earning a MasterChef apron. Who will earn one of those remaining spots?

MasterChef Season 10 is going to be bigger and better. After last week’s premiere, the home cooks are bringing some amazing signature dishes to impress the judges. Which home cooks have the talent to make it into the competition?

According to FOX, this week’s MasterChef episode, “Auditions-Pt. 2/The Battle Round” synopsis states:

"With only eight aprons remaining in the audition rounds, the search for the next MasterChef continues. The pressure is on as the home cooks rush to create their signature dish for the judges in just under 45 minutes. A select few will have to concoct a dish so impressive that it wins over all three judges. See who takes the final aprons, marking their spot in the Top 20 in the all-new “Auditions – Pt. 2/The Battle Round.”"

A couple of items are interesting about this synopsis. First, 45 minutes is a quick amount of time to cook a signature dish. While these home cooks have probably practiced their dish hundreds of times, the pressure in this unfamiliar kitchen could cause problems.

Also, this year the home cooks have to impress all three judges to earn an apron. The judges have different palates. If the home cooks didn’t make a signature dish with universal appeal, they could be in trouble.

Additionally, the home cooks needed to pick an impressive dish. While grandma’s macaroni and cheese could be the best macaroni and cheese ever, how would that impress the judges?

This competition is looking for the best of the best. There needs to be some creativity mixed into the technical execution of a dish. Those two factors need to seamlessly blend together.

Lastly, one person got a judges’ pass last week. It will be interesting to see if that home cook can recover from his churros choice and find a way to set himself apart from his fellow competitors.
