MasterChef Season 10 episode 3 “Gordon’s Mystery Box” preview

The MasterChef home cooks are ready to step into the kitchen. Will their first Gordon Ramsay MasterClass prove to be momentous?

With everyone elated that they earned a coveted MasterChef apron, the moments of joy quickly fade. A culinary boot camp looks to whip these home cooks into chef-shape. Could two home cooks journey come to an end quickly?

According to FOX, this week’s MasterChef episode, “Gordon’s Mystery Box” synopsis states:

"Competition kicks off for The Top 20 with a culinary boot camp to weed out the cooks from the chefs. For a chance for immunity, the chef-testants’ skills are put to the test in a quick-fire evaluation of their culinary expertise. Then, the home cooks face their first mystery box challenge of the season, in which they will make a dish inspired by Chef Gordon Ramsay or be at risk of elimination. Two people will be sent home, leaving eighteen contestants in the running to take home a quarter of a million dollars, the MASTERCHEF trophy, and the opportunity to train in Joe Bastianich, Aarón Sanchez, and Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants. Find out who makes it to the next round in an all-new “Gordon’s Mystery Box” episode of MASTERCHEF airing Wednesday, June 12."

Going into a quick-fire evaluation will be very nerve racking for these home cooks. If they thought that the pressure was high cooking their signature dish, this challenge will be even more difficult.

With only a quick glimpse at some of the home cooks, it will be hard to tell which ones will do well and which ones will falter. Hopefully, the challenge is something that most home cooks can master. Please, no scramble eggs challenge (sorry but that chef challenge is the worst).

A couple of items are clear from this video. First, there will be a lot of chopping. Anyone who has any culinary training understands that great knife skills are paramount for any good chef.

These home cooks need to be efficient and clean. In a way, they should be grateful to chop onions. Ask any culinary student about how much she loves prepping potatoes.

Second, it appears that the home cooks will learn to break down a fish. If these home cooks listen, the task isn’t extremely difficult. A good fish knife and understanding the process can make this task easier.

Lastly, apparently Joe has lost his patience. There is a lot of pressure on these home cooks. Nerves are going to get in the way. Still, no one, even in the first challenge, should make silly mistakes.
