In this week’s episode of The Great Food Truck Race, are the food trucks prepared for this culinary challenge or could they be faced with the police’s wrath?

The Great Food Truck Race is making its way across Florida. After speeding their way through Daytona, Tampa could be even more challenging. Which food trucks will adapt to the challenge or will the teams succumb to the pressure?

According to the Food Network, this week’s episode, “Tampa 911” synopsis states:

"Six food truck teams meet up with Tyler Florence in Tampa, Florida and are shocked to see a squadron of police officers arrive with sirens blaring. The officers are there to judge a contest based on Tampa’s gift to the culinary world: the Cuban sandwich. After the challenge, the teams struggle with stormy weather and finding a good location to sell in the city, leading to one truck’s elimination."

First, the Cuban sandwich challenge is interesting. Tampa has a large Cuban population and Ybor City is huge. The Cuban sandwich was made popular by the Cubans and the cigar workers in Ybor City.

A Cuban sandwich is a type of ham and cheese sandwich. It usually has ham, pork, Swiss cheese, pickles and mustard on Cuban bread. One of the keys to a great Cuban sandwich is the bread. Hopefully, the food trucks have some tasty bread.

It will be curious to see if the food trucks try to customize the Cuban sandwich. The key will be to add something tasty, yet not loss the integrity of the sandwich. Do you think Baby Got Mac will turn their sandwich into a mac and cheese?

This week’s episode should be a test to see which food trucks have business savvy. Location is imperative for a successful food truck. If locations are scarce, the food trucks need to choose wisely.

Also, if weather is a factor, the food trucks need to choose the right menu. Weather can affect what people choose to order. For example, no one wants something cold on a cold day, right?
