MasterChef Season 10 episode 14 preview: Let Them Eat Cake

Is the MasterChef kitchen turning into a bakery? This week’s challenge has the home cooks putting their pastry skills to the test.

To be a MasterChef winner, these home cooks must show that they are more than just good cooks. Being knowledgeable about baking is important to any chef. In this week’s challenge, the 12 remaining home cooks must find a way to rise to the occasion.

According to FOX, this week’s episode synopsis for “Let Them Eat Cake” states:

"The Top 12 are in for a sweet treat in this week’s immunity challenge. As the home cooks enter the MASTERCHEF kitchen, they are surprised with an array of gorgeous and delectable cakes. In under 75 minutes, the contestants will have to replicate one of the cakes on display for the judges. Discover whose baking skills will reign supreme in the all-new “Let Them Eat Cake” episode of MASTERCHEF airing Wednesday, July 31 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX."

First, being a decent baker and a great baker are vastly different. While many people can probably make a cake from scratch, this week’s challenge is definitely not just making a plain, boring vanilla cake. This challenge is definitely not a piece of cake.

First, it is curious the home cooks get to choose their cakes. While it probably isn’t a random order, the home cooks who get first choice better choose wisely. Hopefully, there is at least one cake on that table that they can make.

Still, 75 minutes to make a cake from scratch is going to be challenging. Getting the cake baked and cooled in that time frame is tight. Who wants to bet that icing is going to be melted, cakes are going to be naked and someone might serve an under-baked disaster.

Looking at the video, it seems like there are more tears in the MasterChef kitchen. At some point, Gordon has to say that there is no crying in the kitchen. With 12 home cooks left, everyone better be on their A-game.
