BBQ Brawl Flay vs. Symon episode 2 preview: Big steaks and high stakes
Are you ready for another episode of BBQ Brawl Flay vs. Symon? In this episode, big steaks are hitting the grill but who will earn the high stakes advantage.
Did you watch the premiere of BBQ Brawl Flay vs. Symon? While the contenders of barbecue masters were impressive, the witty banter between Bobby and Michael was just as entertaining. The combination of great food and fun one liners was definitely a Food Network win.
According to the Food Network, this week’s episode, “High Steaks” features the following:
"Bobby Flay and Michael Symon battle it out in a tomahawk rib-eye challenge with high “steaks,” as the winner gets an advantage that could affect the entire competition. Then the six remaining contenders face off in a Texas beef challenge, and a curve ball sends them running for the border."
The tomahawk challenge should be quite interesting. While there will be no spatchcock chicken this time around, there should be some play on words with that big bone.
For the home cook, a tomahawk chop is a quite pricey piece of meat. An impressive visual on the plate, this cut can be tricky to cook well. It is an indulgent cut and needs to shine. Big seasonings and too many extras aren’t needed. Simplicity can often be best.

As for the second challenge, a Texas beef challenge could be almost anything. While the pit masters should have learned that ribs might not be a smart choice, other beef cuts can need a long cook time, too. For example, a brisket might not be the best choice with only a couple of hours of cooking.
Lastly, the comment about running to the border is curious. If the challenge has a spice or southwest twist, Bobby and his team could have an advantage. Everyone knows that Bobby knows spice and peppers. While there might not be one of his infamous sauces, there could be a few other tricks up his sleeve.
