The season finale of Gordon Ramsay Uncharted heads to the frigid, yet visually stunning state of Alaska. Will this rugged terrain inspired this finale feast?

Throughout the Gordon Ramsay Uncharted season, Chef Ramsay has highlighted countries, regions, cuisines and ingredients that might not be the star of the home cook’s dinner table. But, each episode can and does make a connection to any cook’s culinary adventure. In the finale episode, Alaska’s Panhandle pushes the food conversation in a new level.

According to Nat Geo Challenge, this week’s episode, “Alaska’s Panhandle” features the following synopsis:

"Chef Gordon Ramsay journeys to the rugged Alaskan Panhandle to learn survival skills and discover Alaskan cuisine. On his adventure, he learns how to cook seal with a native Tlingit elder, climbs a sheer rock face in a snowstorm and goes grouse hunting before putting his newfound knowledge to the test at a feast with legendary local chef Lionel Uddipa."

Alaska isn’t always the top of a foodie’s destination list. The frigid weather and the travel difficulty can make this location often overlooked. But, the resourcefulness and ingenuity that this region holds can be a profound lesson for many foodies and home cooks.

As Chef Ramsay explores ingredients for his finale feast, there is an unsaid commentary about the fragility of the planet. Whether it is using all parts of the animal to avoid waste or the delicate balance of an ecosystem, the food conversation is more than the food on the plate. The how, what and why should be discussed in addition to how tasty the food may be.

Throughout this season Chef Ramsay and this show have brought many food issues to light without becoming preachy. Whether it is foraging for ingredients or using animals that are a detriment to the eco-structure, there are many topics that this Nat Geo program covered, albeit in a subtle way.

While each show has the culinary adventure aspect, there is an underlying hope that these shows are just the spark of the conversation for viewers. Although many people might be inspired to book a foodie adventure, there could be an even bigger culinary adventure just waiting in their backyard. With a different set of eyes and a desire to learn, anything is possible.

What can you expect from the Gordon Ramsay Uncharted finale? A little humor, a delicious feast and a spark to keep the food discussion going forward.
