Worst Cooks in America Season 17 episode 4 preview: The Bird is the Word

In this episode of Worst Cooks in America, the recruits tackle a common ingredient, chicken. Will these fried chicken dishes be finger licking good?

Another episode of Worst Cooks in America is here. While no one was eliminated in last week’s episode, the recruits shouldn’t expect smooth sailing in this week’s episode. Will anyone be too chicken to compete in this week’s main dish challenge?

According to the Food Network, this week’s Worst Cooks in America episode, “The Bird is the Word,” synopsis states:

"The recruits enter the world of poultry where they start off with a bird-based quiz game before making their very own omelets. For the main dish challenge, the recruits learn how to make perfect fried chicken. Those who cook the perfect bird will soar on in the competition while those at the bottom of the pecking order will be sent home."

Looking at this synopsis, it is interesting that the first challenge is omelets. This type of challenge is a common chef challenge. Seeing how a chef cooks eggs is sometimes a measure of his cooking ability.

For the main challenge, a tasty chicken dish can be more tricky than it seems. While the recruits will have to butcher the chicken, it shouldn’t cause as much fuss as the preview conveys. Breaking down a chicken is simple and nothing out of the ordinary.

Additionally, a good chicken dish needs to balance flavor and execution. A bland, dry chicken breast is a kitchen nightmare. Hopefully, none of the recruits plate this poor choice.

It will be curious to see if the recruits can build on their knowledge from the previous challenges. Adding some heat to a chicken dish can create a depth of flavor. A nuanced sauce can keep the chicken moist.

To wine this Food Network competition, the recruits need to show that they are learning, growing and applying the knowledge from this competition. While they will not the Next Iron Chef, they will no longer be the Worst Cooks in America.
