The countdown is on to the feast. Ultimate Thanksgiving Challenge takes on another twist to the holiday classic dishes this week.

Are you taking notes during Ultimate Thanksgiving Challenge? While everyone has favorite flavors, foods and dishes for the holiday, sometimes those classics can get a tasty update. Ready to dig in?

According to the Food Network, this week’s episode, “They’re Called ‘Classics’ for a Reason,” synopsis states:

"Giada De Laurentiis asks the five competing chefs to put a Thanksgiving spin on a classic dish. The winner gets an advantage in the dinner round, when the chefs have to create a Thanksgiving dinner infusing the flavors of a randomly assigned country. Judges Alex Guarnaschelli, Carla Hall and Christian Petroni send one chef home, and the others continue on for a chance at winning the $25,000 prize."

After last week’s Thanksgiving on a budget, this twist shows that the holiday is a blend of traditions. Just because Thanksgiving is more of an American holiday doesn’t mean that global flavors have to take a back seat.

It will be interesting to see which chefs get which countries/flavors. While these chefs are all very talented, some chefs may be less willing to step outside of their more traditional box.

Still, this week’s challenge is a great reminder for the home cook. Just because Thanksgiving is more traditional, it doesn’t mean that she can’t add an Asian inspired side dish to the table. Or, maybe the turkey would benefit from a few Mexican spices.

In many ways, Thanksgiving is a great time to explore flavors. Just like the country’s melting pot of people, food is a global melting pot. There are more similarities of flavors than differences.
