Holiday Baking Championship preview: Thanksgiving ready?

With Thanksgiving, the holidays start to get on a roll. This week’s Holiday Baking Championship is ready to be thankful for all these baked treats.

Holiday Baking Championship is ready to “Thanksgiving It My All” in this week’s episode. With the eight remaining bakers trying to impress the judges, there can be no mistakes in these bakes. Who will find a way to stand out and who will fall short?

According to the Food Network, this week’s episode, “Thanksgiving My All” synopsis states:

"Apple cider doughnuts are a sure sign of fall, so in the first round, Jesse Palmer asks the eight bakers to create a dozen kicked-up apple cider doughnuts decorated with seasonal themes. Then the bakers must transform a classic holiday yule log into a festive Thanksgiving roll cake, and judges Nancy Fuller, Duff Goldman and Lorraine Pascale decide which competitor’s cake falls short."

Apple cider doughnuts might sound like a simple dessert, but it is quite telling of a baker’s skill. The balance of flavor and the right texture are both key to a good doughnut. If these bakers can nail these components, they will not do well in this challenge.

The interesting aspect to this challenge is the “kicked” up component to the doughnut. How will these flavors meld with a traditional apple cider doughnut?

Looking at the main heat challenge, the roll cake is often a dreaded, difficult bake. Even the best bakers can have a “bad” roll. The perfect sponge is key.

Looking at the challenge to create a Thanksgiving roll cake, it will be interesting to see which flavors have to be included. While pumpkin might be the holiday flavor, it isn’t the only choice.

Hopefully, there will be some creativity in these themed cakes. While the roll cake always looks pretty, will these bakers have to make a turkey?
