Sonic has free drinks for Puppy Bowl XVI (Puppy Bowl 16).

While Sonic Drive-In isn’t the first restaurant that comes to mind when thinking of Super Bowl Sunday, they’re aiming to change that impression by a promotion centered around Puppy Bowl XVI.

As our friends at FanSided Network sister site Dog O’Day could tell you, the Puppy Bowl is the adorable Animal Planet special that is essentially a mockumentary of the big game itself, complete with a celebrity-laden halftime show, and is just as amazing as puppies playing football sounds like it would be.

In last year’s game, Team Ruff ended a three-year losing streak and defeated Team Fluff in a high-scoring 59-51 contest that was far more thrilling than the actual Super Bowl turned out to be. (Though audiences did learn that some beer uses corn syrup as an ingredient, that’s something.)

By using the Sonic app and using the code “PUPPYBOWL”, customers can get a free large drink or slush with their purchase, from now until Monday, February 3. This offer only applies to orders made within the app, and can only be used once per customer. For more information, see the Sonic website for more details.

Given that the Puppy Bowl is using the new team colors of blue and orange (officially Bark Blue and Tail Mary Tangerine) this year, we here at FoodSided think it might be appropriate to order a Blue Coconut slush.

Or, since the Kansas City Chiefs’ colors are red and yellow, while the San Francisco 49ers’ colors are red and gold, tater tots or onion rings would be a good purchase to go along with a cherry limeade. And a chili cheese coney is never a bad choice, either.

Puppy Bowl XVI will air on Animal Planet on Sunday, February 2, at 2 p.m. ET.
