Girl Scout Cookie Championship Season 1 episode 3: Bring on the s’mores

The Girl Scouts might love their iconic s’mores, but this episode of Girl Scout Cookie Championship is more than just a campfire treat.

Girl Scout Cookie Championship is back with another exciting episode. As seen in the season premiere, these tasty treats inspired by the iconic Girl Scout cookies are more than just tasty desserts. Just like the Girl Scouts, these desserts need to be a total package. Can this week’s group of bakers prove that they are worthy of the big prize?

According to the Food Network, this week’s Girl Scout Cookie Championship episode, “This Glacier Tastes Like Thin Mints” features the following:

"Host Alyson Hannigan presides as five professional bakers transform America’s favorite cookies into dessert treats inspired by a classic campfire snack: s’mores! The bakers turn Samoas, Trefoils, Lemon-Ups and more into dozens of delicious desserts that they then sell at a farmers market teeming with hungry Girl Scout Cookie-lovers. The three bakers who wow the crowd and earn the most votes move on to create spectacular cakes inspired by the great outdoors using Girl Scout Cookies as the star ingredient. The cakes may look like glaciers, beaches and forests, but they taste like Thin Mints, Tagalongs and Do-si-dos. Judges Nacho Aguirre, Katie Lee and Samantha Seneviratne decide which cake best honors the cookies and which baker deserves to walk away with a dream outdoor vacation and a year’s supply of Girl Scout Cookies."

After last week’s premiere episode, a few takeaways are key to a baker’s success. First, the flavor of the Girl Scout cookie needs to come through in the dessert. Just because there are marshmallows and some fire doesn’t mean that the cookie flavor is buried.

The first challenge is just as much about flavor as it is about selling. Similar to how the Girl Scouts need to understand the business aspect of selling cookies, these bakers need to understand the selling point of their dessert. Just because they love a super spicy dessert doesn’t mean that a flavor combination will be a hit at the farmer’s market.

As for the second challenge, the emphasis is really on the visual. While the flavor is always important in any Food Network challenge, the visual really does impress the judging table. As seen in the previous episode, the baker who really pushes the creativity in design tends to have an advantage.

Although each of these episodes stand on their own, it would have been nice to see a winner advance into a “championship” round. Maybe there could have been one ultimate prize at the end of the season.
