Will Popeye’s flounder fish cause the next sandwich war?
With the success of Popeye’s chicken sandwich, could Popeye’s flounder fish cause the next sandwich war?
Popeye’s released a limited time, select location Popeye’s flounder fish sandwich in the United States in time for Lent. Popeye’s has always been known for releasing limited time items, and some have become fan favorites on the Internet. Popeye’s seems to be building on that chicken sandwich momentum by launching a fish sandwich.
This delicious Popeye’s flounder fish has tartar sauce and pickles on a brioche bun. According to listings on Grubhub and Postmates you can find the sandwich itself for $5.99, or as a combo meal for $9.99 which includes a side and a drink.
Could Popeye’s flounder fish be starting a fish sandwich war? We’ve seen how well the chicken sandwich has done for the company, and that they’ve been riding on the success of it recently.
We’ve seen social media “wars” between brands happen with chicken and other items, so why can’t we see a fish sandwich war start? McDonald’s has the filet-o-fish, Wendy’s has the North Pacific cod filet, and Burger King even has the big fish.
Arby’s even has a fish sandwich which is the king’s hawaiian fish deluxe. A normal crispy fish sandwich, and a fish n cheddar sandwich I could see these companies possibly promote and make newer fish sandwiches to compete against Popeye’s in a possible new sandwich war. Arby’s has a home stretch offering three different options already, though. All of these places are already offering deals for Lent, and you can find them quite easily.
The way I see the war starting is online of course as most of these wars go. Wendy’s will be the very first to throw down and be the first to roast Popeye’s. Wendy’s social media accounts have been known to troll the competition to get people talking, so it would not shock me. It’s not weird to see brands one up each other and even start offering deals on sandwiches to get fast food goers to at least try the new sandwich.
I really think if Popeye’s wants to compete, this sandwich should stay on the menu until Lent at least ends or allow people more time to indulge in the new Popeye’s flounder fish.
