After an exciting Top Chef All Stars LA Season 17 premiere, the cheftestants look to honor the late Jonathan Gold. Will this week’s dishes be as exciting as last week?

While Top Chef All Stars LA Season 17 might be filled with accomplished chefs, Jonathan Gold is a culinary legend in the LA food scene. For three decades, he was the area’s well respected and celebrated food critic. As the Top Chef cheftestants honor the food writer, will these dishes live up to Gold’s standards?

"The chefs honor the late, great Pulitzer-Prize winning food critic Jonathan Gold; using Gold’s Last Guide List, the chefs fan out all over Los Angeles to sample the unique food trucks, mom-and-pop cafes, and ethnic cuisine."

The LA food scene is one of the most vibrant and diverse. Whether it is the food truck scene or the Michelin star restaurants, the culinary culture would take months to fully explore.

Since Jonathan Gold impacted the LA culinary scene, it is nice to see Top Chef pay respect to the food writer. Hopefully, these cheftestants will do the food writer and the LA food scene justice.

After last week’s premiere, some of the top dishes were not necessarily from the biggest names in the competition. While Brian Voltaggio did well, he was not the winner. Less famous chefs, like Lisa and Stephanie, presented some of the top dishes.

Based just on the first episode, the Top Chef competition is going to be quite good and very unpredictable. Even though some fans will want to see more of their favorite chefs, the competition is about the best dish, not the favorite chef. Hopefully, everyone continues to execute each and every time.
