In this week’s Top Chef All Stars LA, the cheftestants are looking to create a masterpiece. Will they find inspiration or will their creativity hit a road block?

Top Chef All Stars LA is back to the tried and true in this week’s episode. With an amusing Quickfire and an artistic elimination challenge, which cheftestants will rise to the challenge? Hopefully, these dishes will inspire the judges with their flavor and presentation.

According to the Bravo, this week’s Top Chef All Stars LA episode, “Strokes of Genius” features the following:

"Comedic superstars Ali Wong and Randall Park swing by the Top Chef kitchen for a Quickfire Challenge tasking the chefs to make the wackiest fried rice they can. Then, the chefs head to the famed Getty Museum to seek inspiration from one of four historical art movements to create a masterpiece on their plate. Guest Judge Ludo Lefebvre joins Tom, Padma and Gail, as well as guest diners Chefs Ray Garcia, Sara Hymanson, Sarah Kramer and Craig Thornton"

Looking at the Quickfire Challenge, wacky fried rice could either be genius or hideous. Hopefully, the chefs have some “older” rice to use. Everyone knows that fried rice is better when the rice isn’t just made.

As for flavors, there are some ideas that should not be included in a fried rice. Hopefully no one has to do a dessert version of fried rice.

Looking at the Elimination Challenge, this idea is quite interesting. While many chefs are inspired by travel, art presents an interesting theme. Given the idea that people say that we eat with our eyes, it will be interesting to see if the chefs look to balance colors and shapes in the plating of their dishes. An all brown plate might not be the best idea.

Given that the competition is still early, it is hard to say if there are any potential front runners. Bryan has been solid in the first two episodes. Nini excelled with her “Masa” Ball Soup last week. It might be too early to determine any front-runners.

Still, Top Chef isn’t just about cooking amazing food. There is a mental component to these competitions. It is stressful. While every cook has a bad night, a bad competition dish can have a chef packing her knives.
