As schools continue distance learning, Pizza Hut’s Read & Feed Program seeks to help educators by providing them the tools to keep kids engaged.

For years, Pizza Hut has encouraged kids to read through its Pizza Hut: The Literacy Project. Now through Pizza Hut’s Read & Feed Program, educators are being given the tools to help children during these unprecedented times. Even though the physical classroom is quiet, teachers are fostering children’s education.

Schools are more than just a place to learn the fundamentals. Within those four walls, children have a safe haven. From the teacher who inspires the child to dream big to a hot meal to satisfy a hunger, school is more than just a day of learning.

Now that students are distance learning, the separation between home and school can seem great. In some areas, the economic disparity can make learning difficult. While the uncertainty can create an emotional toll, the lack of access during distance learning can make the whole experience even more discouraging.

Through Pizza Hut’s Read & Feed Program, Pizza Hut and its partner First Book will help educators during these difficult times. In addition to a donation of 250,000 personal pan pizzas, there are $500,000 grants to educators. The program is designed to give educators the ability to order books and other educational services and distribute them where other services are provided.

As everyone is adapting to this educational environment, “First Book recently surveyed its educator network and found that more than two-thirds indicated a high need for books to supplement distance learning, keep kids engaged, and prevent them from falling behind while out of the classroom.”

The key to this situation is keeping kids engaged. A book can open a whole new world outside the confines of four walls. If a Pizza Hut pizza certificate encourages a child to open another book, then the teachers need those tools. Yes, every little bit of effort can make a difference.

More importantly, teachers understand that students cannot fall behind. When access is limited, the potential learning gap grows. There is a sense of pride when a child opens and reads a book. By fostering that connection, the Pizza Hut Read & Feed program brings a positive, educational connection beyond the school walls.
