As Pete Alonso revealed via The Players’ Tribune, achieving the perfect caramelized onion takes only a few steps and only takes a handful of ingredients: sweet onions, cinnamon and your choice of either honey or maple syrup.
Once you’ve rounded up your ingredients, all that’s needed is to follow a series of easy steps making the recipe perfect for those with both extensive grilling knowledge and beginner cooks!

- 2 sweet onions
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
- Cut out the top of the onions and reserve the cap.
- Hollow out a shallow hole in the center.
- Rub cinnamon into hole and drizzle in honey or maple syrup until just full.
- Place the cap of the onion over the top of the hole.
- Place onions on the grill for six to eight minutes, or until the honey has dissolved and the onion is tender.
