Since it is best to know some cheesy facts ahead of the event, here are five reasons why Wisconsin Cheese Curds are so squeaky good.

Curds, Curds and a little whey

Cheese curds are young cheddar. While it takes about 10 pounds of milk to make one pound of cheese curds, these cheddar bites are not aged. The curds are separated from the whey and the curd retains that milky flavor. Basically, all cheese starts off as a curds.

Yes, it really does squeak

When you bite into a fresh cheese curd, there is a squeak sound and that’s a good thing. The protein strands are rubbing against tooth enamel and the sound occurs. That squeakiness is something that many cheese lovers have come to enjoy. More importantly, it is the easiest way to tell that the cheese curd is fresh.

Flavors, flavors and more flavors

While the classic cheddar cheese curd is the most common, the curds can come in a variety of flavors. Usually, the curds are either yellow or white cheddar. Additionally, some cheese makers have added flavors to the mix. From a spicy jalapeno to always popular ranch, you could do a whole cheese plate featuring all the flavors.

Fresh is best

While it can be hard to stop at just five cheese curds, it is best to eat a bag while they are fresh. Ideally, cheese curds should be eaten within two days of opening the bag. If you do have a few extra curds around, you can perk them up in the microwave. Just a few seconds in the microwave can bring their freshness back.

There’s an unofficial cheese curd ambassador

While the title doesn’t come with cheese curds for life, Culver’s is the unofficial cheese curd ambassador. Enjoying some fried cheese curds with that Butter Burger is delicious (you can even put some curds on that burger). Culver’s has served more than 800 million individual fried cheese curds across its restaurants.

If you haven’t fallen in love with Wisconsin Cheese Curds, now is the time to embrace the squeak. It could become your new favorite snack.
